Hollow Earth is a concept where people believe that another world lies beneath the surface of our planet, containing a substantial interior space. This idea has given rise to numerous conspiracy theories, despite our scientific understanding that the Earth comprises three distinct layers: the crust, the mantle, and the core. Many conspiracy theorists have attempted to validate their views through books, websites, and even movies. The Hollow Earth conspiracy theory has spawned a new set of questions, ranging from the existence of an interior sun to the presence of UFOs.

  • According to folklore, a bell tower, a chapel, and a cave are said to be entrances to the center of the Earth, which are generally considered to be myths. Many movies and books depict the concept of a hollow Earth in fiction, which was often believed by children. Even though drilling directly into the Earth’s center is currently impossible, some theories suggest the existence of special and isolated places that lead to the Earth’s interior.

  • Conspiracy Theory – Underground and UFO:

    Fact: No, it isn’t

    An ancient astronaut theorist claimed to have seen a robot entering a tunnel where light emanated from underground in Azerbaijan. This alleged activity was linked with UFOs and caused a significant sensation after the release of the book Hollow Earth. Many science fiction movies and books have led people to believe in an underground world where extraterrestrial machinery is manufactured. Flying saucers and teleporting machines were supposedly located in this subterranean realm, isolated from the surface world.  

  • Conspiracy Theory – Interior sun:

    Fact: No, it isn’t

    The interior sun is a common element in Hollow Earth conspiracy theories. This theory originated in the 17th century, stating that the Earth is hollow with an internal sun. A small sun is believed to be present at the center of the Earth, which in turn provides a livable environment on the surface. Marshall Gardner and Vladimir Obruchev wrote in their books that the Earth possessed an inner sun and was inhabited by prehistoric species. Some even suggested that volcanic eruptions are due to the presence of this central sun.  

  • Conspiracy Theory – Mythology about life in the interior world:

    Fact: No, Not true

    Personal beliefs and regional mythologies have contributed to the concept of the Hollow Earth conspiracy. Each person or culture often had their own version of these theories. In Greek mythology, caves were sometimes considered paths leading to the Earth’s center, supposedly occupied by the ancient god Zalmoxis. Hindu mythology claims that their ancestors emerged from a land inside the Earth. Similarly, various cultures have their own beliefs about life in the interior world. Native American and Brazilian Indian traditions also include stories of their ancestors emerging from underground lands.  

  • Conspiracy Theory – Concave hollow earth:

    Fact: No, it isn’t

    Some conspiracy theorists propose a concept called “skycentrism” or the concave Hollow Earth theory. In this view, humans live on the outer surface of a hollow inner crust. Interestingly, some mathematicians in the past have entertained aspects of the Hollow Earth conspiracy, agreeing with the idea of an “inside-out” universe, although this is not a mainstream scientific view.
